Cape Coral Police Department uses a variety of lethal and non-lethal ammunition for training and on-duty purposes for both handguns and rifles.  Every member of sworn personnel must also qualify each year with their service weapon.  The current contract expired on September 30, 2023.

On August 16, 2023, Invitation to Bid #BPD23109MR was issued for the purchase and delivery of ammunition used by the Police Department for duty, qualification, and training. There were 22 planholders that downloaded the documents.

On September 7, 2023, seven bids were received from the following firms: SSD International Inc., Florida Bullet, Inc., Dana Safety Supply Inc., Lawmen’s and Shooters’ Supply, Inc, Mike’s Wholesale Incorporated, SWFL Ammo and 1^st Round Ammunition LLC.   

After evaluation, staff recommends the following award in the estimated amount of $150,000 at the respective bid price, to the lowest responsive responsible bidders having met the requirements and specifications outlined in the bid documents:

• Lawmen’s and Shooters’ Supply, Inc.   Bid Item 5 ALT   
• Mike’s Wholesale Incorporated            Bid items 6 ALT2, 7 ALT and 10  
• SSD International LLC                           Bid item 8
• Dana Safety Supply, Inc.                       Bid item 9  

During evaluation it was determined that Bid Item 3, which received no bids, will be quoted when needed.

If approved, purchase orders will be issued to Florida Bullet, Inc., 1^st Round Ammunition, LLC., Lawmen’s and Shooters Supply, Inc., Mike’s Wholesale Incorporated., SSD International LLC., and Dana Safety Supply, Inc will be for one year from October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024 with one (1) additional one-year renewal. 

The City of Cape Coral reserves the right to purchase off State Contracts or any other available contracts if deemed to be in the best interest of the City.
