Jaycee Park has been identified as one of the City's major park facilities with significant unrealized potential. With its prime location and approximately 1,300 feet of shoreline along the Caloosahatchee River, this nearly 12-acre park has tremendous opportunity to become a unique waterfront destination within the city.
On March 2, 2022, the City issued a Request for Proposal RCP2237APMM for planning, engineering, design, permitting, construction management for improvements to Jaycee Park. In May, the City selected Pennoni Associates Inc. and developed an initial conceptual design to present to CIty Council.
The initial concept was presented at the Council Winter Retreat in January 2023 with favorable feedback.
A contract for design and engineering services with Pennoni was brought to City Council on May 3, 2023. Council gave approval to proceed pending public involvement meetings. Public involvement efforts were conducted in August and September (Open House and Online Community Survey). The feedback was presented to Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting September 13, 2023.
Following the September meeting, City staff worked with Pennoni to develop an updated concept based on feedback received from the community. The updated concept was presented to City Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting October 11, 2023.
City staff is requesting approval for Pennoni Associates to proceed with the design of the Jaycee Park improvements utilizing the updated concept. At the 30% design point, City staff and Pennoni will schedule another public open house to show the progress of the design process.
